Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PHSCE) [includes RSE]

Our PHSCE programme is adaptive and responds to significant events within the community, nationally or internationally. It is delivered partially through tutor time and through special drop down events throughout the year.

We provide access to RSE curriculum resources to parents on request. If you would like to request access to these please contact Dan Crosland, Assistant Headteacher: dcroslan[AT]whickhamschool.org.

Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)

Our PSHCE programme covers the statutory elements of the RSE curriculum, including Sex Education. Parents have a right to withdraw their child from the Sex Education elements of the programme only. There is no right to withdraw from the entire PSHCE or RSE curriculum. This right also only covers the Sex Education elements of RSE and does not extend to other subjects (such as reproduction in Science).

The legal right of parents to withdraw their child extends until three terms before their child turns 16. At this point it becomes the child’s decision on whether to receive Sex Education.

Parents wishing to exercise their right to withdraw should refer to the Relationships and Sex Education policy on our policies page, contacting the school using the form in Appendix 2 (this can be sent to your child’s Pastoral Leader).
