We currently have a range of fantastic opportunities for enthusiastic and committed individuals to make a difference in the lives of young people. We place a strong emphasis on pastoral work and the role of a tutor, and use a restorative approach in supporting pupils. The school is heavily oversubscribed and results are considerably above local and national averages, progress 8 in 2024 was +0.26 and attainment figures in 2025 were very strong.
The school has built an excellent reputation for the quality of provision provided to students and we have made significant progress in becoming a place where students fulfil their potential. Finance Officer
- Post: Finance Officer
- Salary Grade: E £26,824 – 28,142 (FTE)
- Actual Salary: £22,202 – £23,293 (30 hours per week pro rata to a fixted term contact)
- Contract: Fixed Term (5th January 2026 – 31st August 2026)
- Start Date: 5th January 2026
- Responsible to: Finance Manager

We are looking to appoint an experienced Finance Officer to assist in the provision of an effective and efficient financial management service at Whickham School. Experience of working in Academy Finance would be desirable along with knowledge of Iris (PS) Financials.

One to One Physics Tutor

- Salary Grade: £33.23 per hour
- Contract: Part Time Supply (Minimum 2hrs per week)
- Start Date: January 2026
- Responsible to: Tutoring, Trips & Visits Co-ordinator
We are looking to appoint one to one tutors with expertise in Physics to continue in the role out of our successful tutoring programme. We have a proven system that identifies the needs of pupils and we will support you to help pupils’ make rapid improvements. We will provide training and support before you work with our pupils and you will be guided by subject teachers throughout the course of tutoring.
The ideal candidate(s) will have the ability to teach creatively, adapting to the needs of each learner and must have good core subject knowledge. You must be open minded / non-judgemental and have the ability to build a rapport quickly in order to achieve the best results. This role would be particularly suited to those who wish to have a degree of flexibility in their working arrangements. Currently tutoring takes place in school and over MS Teams during the evening or weekends.

Casual Vacancies
- From time to time Whickham School needs people to fulfil casual posts such as mini bus driver, invigilator and caretaker duties.

Exam Invigilator
- Post: Invigilator
- Salary Grade: £12.65 per hour (plus holiday accrual at 13.04%)
- Contract: Part Time Supply (by negotiation and agreement during mock exam and external exam periods)
- Start Date: January 2026
- Responsible to: Exams & Data Officer
We are seeking to appoint invigilators to carry out effective supervision of pupils to ensure exam protocols are followed. Supervising pupils during the eam process, ensuring their health, welfare and security during that time. An ideal candidate will:
- be reliable, flexible and readily available during main exam periods
- have effective communication skills and good interpersonal skills
- work well as part of a team
- be confident and a reassuring presence to candidates in exam rooms
- be able to give instructions and manage situations involving different groups of people
- have basic IT skills (familiar with use of email, mobile phone messaging etc.)
