We place a strong emphasis on pastoral work and the role of a tutor, and use a restorative approach in supporting pupils. The school is heavily oversubscribed and results are considerably above local and national averages, progress 8 in 2024 was +0.26 and attainment figures in 2025 were very strong.
Librarian – Term Time Fixed Contract

Student achievement and well-being is at the heart of everything we do at Whickham School. Based in our library, you will not only perform the duties of a librarian and constantly be interacting with our pupils, you will also support and promote a love of reading and assist with reading interventions. You will promote use of the library by establishing close links with all facilities in the school and by developing relationships with external organisations and visitors. Our Library can also often attract a number of vulnerable pupils, therefore having the ability to support them in providing a safe, nurturing space is key part of this role.

We are seeking to recruit an engaging and inspirational Lead Practitioner with a specialism in Technology. You must have the ability to teach across the age ranges from KS3-KS5. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside our team of five lead practitioners, who have shaped the strong T & L practice at Whickham School. You will be joining a successful IT, Business and Technology Faculty team of 13 staff. Our Technology subjects are consistently some of the top performing in the school and led by an experienced team who make the very most of our outstanding technology facilities.

Maths Tutor
- Post: One-To-One Tutor: Maths
- Salary Grade: £31.95 per hour
- Contract: Part Time Supply
- Start Date: As soon as possible
- Responsible to: Tutoring Co-ordinator
We are looking to appoint one to one tutors with expertise in mathematics to continue in the roll out of our successful tutoring programme. We have a proven system that identifies the needs of pupils and we will support you to help pupils’ make rapid improvements. We will provide training and support before you work with our pupils and you will be guided by subject teachers throughout the course of tutoring.
The ideal candidate(s) will have the ability to teach creatively, adapting to the needs of each learner and must have good core subject knowledge. You must be open minded / non-judgemental and have the ability to build a rapport quickly in order to achieve the best results.
These roles mirror the national teaching programme and therefore are pensionable under the LGPS. The rates quoted include holiday pay. We are seeking to recruit an engaging and inspirational teacher of Maths. Our Maths faculty of 14 staff consists of a Faculty Leader, Deputy Faculty Leader, Assistant Faculty Leader, Lead Practitioner and teaching staff with many years of experience through to ECTs. Pupil outcomes in mathematics are very good and were in the top 20% of schools nationally in 2024. This year 87% of pupils gained a 4 or better. We have a healthy cohort of pupils who continue their study of mathematics into the sixth form. Opportunities to teach up to A level further Maths are available and where appropriate we support our staff to develop their subject knowledge through funded courses.
