Key Stage 4

At Whickham School students start their Key Stage 4 studies (generally GCSE
and BTEC programmes) from Year 9 going through an options process during
Year 8.

All students follow a common core curriculum which prepares them for life
beyond Whickham

This comprises the following qualifications:
– GCSE English Language, and GCSE English Literature
– GCSE Mathematics
– GCSE Combined Science or GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry and Physics
– A choice from GCSE RS, GCSE Citizenship and BTEC Enterprise (with a focus
on financial literacy).

Students also get to choose additional qualifications from a wide range of
subjects however most choose to study an English Baccalaureate curriculum
by including a Humanity subject (Geography or History) and a Modern Foreign
Language (continuing with either French or German from GCSE).

If you need to discuss any aspects of the Key Stage 4 Curriculum then please get in contact with Mr M Phillipson, Head of Key Stage 4.
