Charity Week 2009

Charity Week 2009 19th- 23rd October:
Sophie Atay Appeal

Charity week is nearly here again and this year we are supporting the “Sophie Atay Appeal”. Sophie was born a fit and healthy baby girl on the 15th November 2007 at the QE Hospital, Gateshead. In early February 2009, at the age of just 15 months old, her mother found an unusual lump on her stomach and after numerous hospital visits, she was diagnosed with neuroblastoma stage 4 (high risk).

Neuroblastoma is a malignant cancer which is very rare and has frightening survival rates of as low as 20%. Sophie’s cancer has spread to her bone marrow. Relapse is very common and if relapse does occur, there is currently no cure in the UK. However, there is treatment available for Sophie that could give Sophie an astonishing 80-90% chance of survival. Unfortunately, this treatment is only available in New York and costs in excess of $500,000.

Time is running out for Sophie. Money needs to be raised and it needs to be raised fast. If there is anything which you can do to help raise money or awareness

cheers
Martin
