NASA International Space School Winner!

Rhys Clark in Year 10 was one of only 6 Gateshead secondary school students to win a place at the prestigious NASA International Space School this autumn. Rhys submitted a short video outlining what he would gain from the project but also what he would contribute as an ambassador for Gateshead in encouraging participation in Maths and Sciences.

Rhys will fly to Orlando in October, where NASA staff will meet him. As well as behind the scenes access to the space centre, he will undergo training with NASA staff and experience flight simulations. In his second week, Rhys will fly to Houston, Texas where he will again further insights into the space programme and receive further training from NASA staff. A host of other visits to museums, seminars environmental concerns and Sea World will also take place.

This is a unique opportunity and Rhys will provide a video diary outlining his experiences.

On Wednesday 8th July he was presented with his prize by astronauts from Space Shuttle mission STS 119 in the company of the Lord Mayor of Gateshead. We wish him well on this wonderful adventure and look forward to his accounts of his experiences with NASA
