Eat in the Street!

20080510-CRW_9018forweb.jpg

In fantastic sunshine, Year 8 students joined in with the Eat in the Street event at the Baltic on Saturday 10th May, they also tucked into asparagus and watercress soup made from produce grown by local allotment owners.

The body of the 'Angel of the North' was assembled using Fairtrade products. The blue and white areas surrounding the angel in the photograph were made from coloured tapioca grains. 400 local school children had made the trays of sly cake during the week and were allowed to slot their tray in place to form the angels wings. The angel was finished with large slabs of chocolate brownie also made from fairtrade products. Slices of the giant cake were then dished up to everyone there.
