Fire Damage at Whickham School

As you may well know, one of the school buildings here at Whickham was set on fire on Friday evening. The police and fire authority suspect this was done deliberately.

The block affected houses our music rooms and important communal areas including the Staff Room, Library, Lecture Theatre and Sixth Form Common Room. In addition, there has been an impact on the school’s gas supply and heating system that despite all our efforts has left parts of the school well below acceptable levels for students and staff.

It is with great regret that school will only remain open for years 9 –13 for the rest of the week. Years 7 and 8 should not attend for that period but return to school on Monday 31st March.

We are confident that the school will be back to something approaching normal by Monday 31st March. We realise this will cause inconvenience to you all and hope you can understand that the school was left with no real alternative.

Please consult the website for further information.

I miss going in the library at lunchtimes to do my homework, hopefully a new library will be built soon.
