Eagles soar high for another year

Report by Laura Convery and Gemma Grist.

Eagles competitors have played their part this year to gain points for their house. The closely fought house matches, the after school sports and finally on the 6th of July the suspense came to an end, Eagles were crowned champions yet again.

Hockey, football, netball, rugby, basketball and of course cross country have all been hard to compete in, but by only a few points Eagles slimly won closely followed by Kestrels. The house matches proved a success as it showed many pupils in Whickham School are extremely skilled in a variety of sports.

Weather this week has varied from sunshine to rain, but Whickham School were determined the downpour wasn’t going to put a downer on the day. Many events kept the year 8 spectators in suspense and thrill, unknowing to who was leading the final competition of the school year. The year 7’s were overjoyed at their first sports day, and won lots of events with high marks for distance and speed. Teachers and students of Whickham School tried their best to keep safety high by constantly sweeping the running paths to ensure no competitors were injured, as the rain refused to stop.

An excited spectator Hannah Bell said, “It was so fun and eventful, and the suspense was killing me inside. But I am very happy that Eagles won, they are the best!

Unfortunately it was another disappointing year for Kestrels however, even more upsetting for Falcons as they came last yet again!
