The Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, David Miliband visited our school on Friday 27th April to meet students involved in an Environmental Enterprise Project.
During the visit Mr Miliband saw the work students are undertaking in connection with an online Environmental Qualification on Climate Change funded by DEFRA.
Mr Miliband also saw at first hand the recycling efforts at Whickham School regarding bottles, paper and plastic before viewing an environmental enterprise project.
The visit concluded with a "Question Time" session with the School Council.
Headteacher Neil Morrison considers the visit to be;
Very appropriate given the efforts we are making at Whickham to help the environment. In a school of over 1700 students and 125 staff we can together make a significant contribution to helping the environment of our community and beyond. We look forward very much to welcoming Mr Miliband.
South Shields MP, David Miliband said;
I am delighted to have the opportunity to see first hand how the young people of Whickham School are helping protect the environment. It is important that we all do our bit. Dave Anderson, MP for Blaydon and I are looking forward to seeing the recycling schemes that have been put in place at the school as part of the enterprise project.
