The Whickham School under 18 rugby team are celebrating after a hard fought victory over Kings School Tynemouth in the final of the Tyneside Senior Secondary Schools Cup. In a closely matched game, dominated by two defences who effectively cancelled one another out, victory was always going to be achieved by the tightest of margins. The final score was 10-10 but Whickham secured victory by virtue of a more attacking performance reflected in their two tries, compared to Kings scores of one try, conversion and a penalty.
The team have put aside the previous disappointment of losing to Dame Allans in the semi-final of the annual Emmanuel 7 aside rugby tournament. The victory at Percy Park represents a major achievement and a winning end to a successful season.
